Christmas Gifts for a 1-Year-Old
Made For Little Hands To Hold
At one, a child wants to carry everything, open everything and do it all again. I chose these for that wonderful age: soft friends small enough to tote from room to room, a storybook worth reading every night, and toys that keep little hands happily busy.

01Winnie the Pooh My First Bedtime Storybook
Winnie the Pooh is the only show my grandson watches, and the stories reached him long before that. When he was only a couple of months old, his dad read Pooh to him tucked against his chest, and he has loved books from the very beginning. This treasury gathers six gentle bedtime stories into one book, with the soft classic illustrations I've always loved. It's a book you can read cover to cover without changing a single word, and that matters to me in a book for a little one.
Six bedtime stories in one padded hardcover, made to be read every night for years.

02Winnie the Pooh and Pals 6 Pack, Micro Teenies
When I was a girl, I treasured my little set of Jungle Book figures. Tiny friends that fit in one hand become part of every story a child makes up. This set brings the whole Hundred Acre Wood to a little one the same way. Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Rabbit and Roo are each about three inches tall and soft as can be, and there's a sleepy Pooh in his pajamas for bedtime.
Six soft three-inch friends, small enough to carry in one hand, in their own storybook box.

03Safari Animal Carry House, OUOZZZ
My children had a little house full of squirrels, and they loved it so much that I still have it today. It was one of those toys that simply got kept, and our family still talks about it. When I found the same idea made as a soft carry house, I knew it belonged here. A tiger, a giraffe, an elephant, a zebra and a monkey all tuck inside and come out again for the next adventure, and the handle on top means the whole animal family can come along wherever a little one goes.
Five soft safari animals and the house that carries them, all machine washable.

04Farm Number Train, Play-Act
This little farm train has so much to discover. Each animal has its own barn with a number on the side, the farmer rides up front, and every barn roof lifts off so a little one can tuck the animals in and find them again. It grows right along with a child, first for loading and unloading, then for matching colours, and later for counting the barns one by one.
Ten numbered barns, nine farm animals and a farmer, and the animals double as finger puppets.

05Farm Busy Book, hahaland
Before my grandson's first long car trip to a family wedding, I could tell his parents were wondering how he'd manage all those hours in his car seat. I found this busy book and had it sent ahead so it would be waiting when they packed. It turned out to be one of the things he reached for most, and it kept his hands happily busy for hours of the drive.
Ten soft felt pages with twenty farm activities, from buttons and laces to a windmill that spins.

06Marshmallow Bear, MON AMI
This bear was the very first gift I chose for my first grandchild. I found out I was going to be a grandmother while I was away on a trip, spotted him in a little shop, and my husband and I chose him together over a video call. My daughter named him Abraham. Now if you ask where Abraham is, my grandson goes straight to him.
A soft 12-inch bear in curly faux fur, just right for small arms to carry from room to room.
